Biosafety Training Modules:

MODULE ONE - Essentials of Biosafety.

Learn about biosafety. This course covers the basic principles of biosafety, risk groups, biosafety levels, laboratory-acquired infections, engineering controls, administrative controls, work practice controls, and PPE controls, transport, decontamination, culture of biosafety, best practices and more.

Format: Lecture; Duration: 2 - 2.5 hr

MODULE TWO - Performing a Risk Assessment.

This course will teach you how to conduct a risk assessment, and includes a combination of lecture and participatory exercise.

Format: Lecture and Exercise; Duration: 1 hr; 30 min lecture and 30 min exercise

MODULE THREE - Biosafety Cabinet Training.

Learn how to effectively use, clean and maintain a biosafety cabinet, and about the types of biosafety cabinets and their uses. This course is a combination of lecture and hands-on experience.

Format: Lecture and Exercise; Duration: 4 hr; includes hands-on training

MODULE FOUR - Spill Cleanup.

This course will train you how to properly and effectively clean up spills in a BSL-2 or BSL-3 laboratory, and includes a combination of lecture and participatory exercise.

Format: Lecture and Exercise; Duration: 1.5 hr; 1 hr lecture and 30 min exercise

MODULE FIVE - Donning and Doffing of PPE.

This course will train you on how to effectively put on and remove personnel protective equipment (PPE) including glove removal. This course is a combination of a brief lecture with demonstration and participatory exercise (for BSL-2 and BSL-3).

Format: Lecture and Exercise; Duration: For BSL2 - 45 min; For BSL3 - 2 hr

MODULE SIX - Gross Decontamination of Down Person.

This course will train you on how to safely and effectively remove an unconscious person from the BSL3, and includes a brief lecture and demonstration.

Format: Lecture and Demonstration; Duration: 1 hr

Modules may be requested individually, or in entirety. Times are an estimate based on a class size of 10 participants. We can cater trainings that are specific to the needs of your institution. Certificates are provided for each training. Ideal for train the trainer too! As part of the training you will receive a biosafety risk management guidance document that includes a risk assessment template, and a biosafety manual template.
